Number two priority: Self organized workshop submissions—1 per organization Other items: question of the opening march (historically local), registration (linked to online submissions, but isn’t our working group), the fireworks (it impacts us, but is something larger)
Consulta Update for the NPC Meeting
Three parts related to consulta and tracks One: general conversation about what is a consulta, as a political tool, organizing tool. feedback tool. Address questions and concerns, get clarity that we want to use it to get feedback all along the way. Two: specific consulta about the workshop tracks—is it clear? Three: Direction about where we’re going with the workshop tracks. Short or long version? Decide. Work time Saturday night, to help wordsmith. The goal is to have it go out to the full NPC before the meeting. The longer version includes 4 additional tracks and some additional language. Process to incorporate info from the Consulta process into the final decisions: Track feedback open until the end of November, then compile all the results, put together revised workshop tracks, for feedback from work groups and NPC. Goal is to have those set by December so that people can start submitting workshops. Timeline: The Consulta is scheduled to go up shortly after the NPC meeting, and will be up until Nov. 30th. Planning the online submission forms to go up by Dec. 15th.
Update on the Call for Proposals and the Online Submission Forms
First draft of the call sent out last Monday. kiran will be working on draft three of the online submission forms. For program subgroup folks who are in Atlanta: find time to gather to talk about this Do whatever we need to do so that people are clear on what the online submission process is going to look like, what the form will look like, etc. Gather feedback and concerns, and take them back to the next conference call so we can incorporate that into the forms. When sending it out to the NPC, make sure they know it’s “for your consideration--” we want questions and feedback. kiran will re-send the pieces to the work group, as well as send them to the NPC.
[edit] Overall Schedule
First day is opening march. Days 2, 3, 4 are core of programmed workshops. Also have PMAs and plenaries. Last day is the big PMA. Core three days: something opening in the morning—cultural or otherwise by 10am first block 10am-12 lunch 12-1pm second block 1-3pm third block 3:30-5:30pm snack 5:30-6:30 evening plenaries start at 6:30pm, end at 8:30 or 9pm. Food vendors and culture will all be in Hart Plaza. At Hart Plaza, performances need to be ended by 11:30pm. We pay $25/minute for going over midnight. 9-11:30pm isn’t bad as far as cultural programming goes. In 2007, there were cultural pieces going on during the day, during the workshops. There was feedback that it felt disconnected, however. Culture wants to be sure there is space for both workshops and culture so that people who want to attend both are able to, and wanted to make sure the daytime was primarily space for workshops. We want to make sure there is a connection between the workshops and the cultural piece. What it’s sounding like: People apply to do cultural programming before 10am, at lunch, at snack. We organize big events post 9pm. Also talked about cultural programming, cultural workshops going on during the day. Need input from the NPC on the plenaries. An NPC plenary sub-group has not yet been formed. We need to know when they end.
